Jill (Elachko) Leahy, 76, beloved wife of John “Jack” J. Leahy (deceased) and a resident of Pittsburgh, died on July 23, 2023 at North Hills Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.

Born to John N. Elachko Sr. and Helen (Chichwak) Elachko on July 3, 1947. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, John N. Elachko, Jr.

Jill grew up in Oakland and attended Sacred Heart High School, then went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she graduated with a BA in English. Jill’s early adult life took her to New England where she made a home in Massachusetts. She loved the beach and felt at home near the ocean. She used her English degree as a marketing and communications writer for several corporations including Honeywell Bull, Banyan Systems and IBM, retiring in 2011.

Jill was an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed sharing her love for literature with friends and family. Her hobbies included horseback riding, photography and golf. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking and exploring new culinary experiences, still, her deep connection to food remained grounded in her family’s Carpatho-Rusyn roots, always celebrated and revered at Easter and Christmas holidays. A true dog-lover, Jill’s canine companions included Tubbs, Katie, Jenny and Morgan.

Jill moved back to Pittsburgh following the death of her husband, Jack and enjoyed her retirement years living near her sister. The two took classes through the University of Pittsburgh’s OSHER Lifelong Learning program and traveled together to several destinations including South Dakota, Prague, Cuba, Northern Ireland and Italy. Jill was a devoted volunteer of the Pittsburgh Opera, offering her writing expertise to create educational materials for attendees. She also volunteered to produce the monthly newsletter and was the librarian for her fellow residents at University Square #2.
